It's always nice to be woken up by a four legged pest scurrying on my bed in the filthiest grimiest hotel room I have ever had the pleasure to spend a night in. People often complain on hostelworld.com or tripadviser.com about how horrible a room can be but I am 100% positive that this hotel is not listed on any of these sites; ill give you a perfect example of how bad this hotel room was, when I checked in last night and had a look at the room the man at reception sprayed the room with a anti-odor fragranced spray, it was only evident later when the spray subsided and I was engulfed in, there is no other way to put it, the smell of shit and piss from the toilet, that of course did not have a door. There was no attempt in the slighted to clean the mildew, mold, cobwebs and grime from the walls, ceiling, floor, tables, mirror and other furniture including the mattress which was yellow in color and slanted. I am not exaggerating this whatsoever, it really was just disgusting. There was some effort made to continuously disguise the smell of the toilet and that of course was not to fix the plumbing but the installation of one of those perfume dispenses that sprayed the room at regular intervals. Written on the wall was also a phone number with the name of a woman which was a nice touch to the furnishings.
Alright, enough about this room and needless to say I did not sleep very well but I was determined to cover a considerable distance, despite this and the several times I got rained on today I did pretty well.
As it was getting dark entering into the town of Nwigi I was worried that I would not find a camping spot, thankfully however a man on a scooter named I-Punk spotted me and invited me to his shop. I-Punk was (like almost all Indonesians) incredibly friendly and willing to help someone in need, he invited me to sleep on the floor of his mobile phone store for the night but while it was still opening hours he took me about the town trying out different foods and introduced me to his family and some friends of his who participate and organize bicycle tours around the area. I-Punk who was also involved with this club was more than interested by my story, but that's a given really as everyone is in one way or another impressed by my endeavors.
