05/12/2013 - Yogyakarta Carnival. 6, that's right, Six Ferris wheels!

This backpackers hostel is a great place to be, it's clean, has a decent breakfast and staff are friendly. It is a converted mansion with many free facilities like laundry and decent wifi (hard to come by in indonesia) but the best part of it all is that the men's dorm is just two very comfortable queens beds that I had to myself last night for only 60,000 rupiahs! ($6)
For the majority of the day I just hung about not doing much but in the evening Lena, a Dutch girl joined me to the Yogya carnival just down the road, there were many typical attractions but here because of the sheer volume of Indonesians in Java there had to be multiple attractions of the same things, as mentioned on the title there were 6 ferris wheels, at least 2 bumper car rides, 5 merry-go-rounds, 2 motorbike death pits (ill explain that later), a multitude of haunted houses, candy floss at every corner, a plethora of shops selling cheap badly made crap and a place where you could have your photo taken with a snake around your neck which I had to do.  The motorbike death pit was very impressive to watch as two daredevils obviously on motorbikes circled the almost 90 degree walls of the inner drum of the stage, it was loud and the riders would take their tips literally from the audiences hands dangerously 10 meters above the base of the drum. It was cool!
My first carnival in so many years and it didn't disappoint, Lena and I were greatly amused by the amusements albeit left a little deafened by the motorbikes.

These two guys impressed the crowd with their mad tricks.
