Distance cycled around the city: 50km
I didn't see as much as I wanted to in Kyoto, I saw my time here as relaxation as my cracked rib really put me in a situation to stay indoors and recover.
Still, it's not all a huge loss as I will probably be returning here before my flight in the beginning of November.
Some of the attractions I did manage to see were sights that came highly recommended and listed as the top places to visit in Kyoto on trip adviser.
The first being the Fushimi Inari Shrine located southeast of central Kyoto.
To get there I didn't want to stick to the busy highways and managed to get lost amongst the back streets where at times I was pushing my bike through people's gardens but eventually found a dirt road to the sight.
It baffled me that somehow I managed to get my bicycle to the point overlooking the entire city, I didn't believe I got so high using these back streets. But it was cool, I certainly had a fast pace ride back down into the city but before doing that I wandered the area getting my photography on. It's believed that these tori gates are soul cleansing and the more you got through the better... Good thing that there are upwards of 30,000 of them.
Another sight worth mentioning is the Sanjusangendo hall, originally named Rengeoin Temple it houses 1001 life sized wooden statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. Disappointingly photography within the great hall was not allowed and as such I don't have any pics of the shear number and extreme detailing of the statues. It certainly was worth the 600 yen to check out but I was deeply annoyed that I couldn't take and shots.
As Yusuke was going to Tokyo I couldn't stay with him and so I checked into a hostel named Kyotokko hostel,it was cheap at $16 a night with many facilities and free breakfast. The staff were pleasant and I met some other backpackers, which is mostly why I stay at hostels.
I tried getting in touch with a girl who I met in Indonesia who at first wanted to meet for food and drinks but she told me her boyfriend was restricting her to meet with me... I'm not going into more detail but it annoys me to see that someone can be so easily manipulated by their other half. It's not the first time I've encountered this situation either, some people!?
