Distance cycled: 52km
Money spent: $a lot
The last three days I have cycled around the mountains surrounding Osaka waiting for my appointment with the Australian consulate to renew my passport.
It was a pain having to wait this long but it had to be done.
I was hoping to set off today and leave Osaka but by the time I got back from the consulate and after a little camera gear shopping it was too late to check out.
I spent another day cruising around the city randomly ending up in strange and exciting areas of the city.
The camera shops here, and I'm talking about second hand shops are just epic to behold, for anyone who is interested in SLR photography, you will not find anything else like these places, they are filled with gear where you are likely to grab a good deal. I was able to trade in my cumbersome tripod for a smaller and lighter carbon fiber one for an extra $70. Checking up online later the prices of this particular model is worth between $500 and $750. What a steal.
I also treated myself to a 70-300mm lens, a zoom lens for those who don't know cameras, bought secondhand for $300. Well worth it as it is exactly what I need for long shooting of animals and people where my other lenses I would have to approve the subject often loosing the candid shit I was looking for.
Strangely this evening I ran into Julian, the Italian guy I met in Kyoto and we set out for dinner, again, like always the portion sizes were dismal but it was entertaining that a drunk woman started offering her daughter for me to marry (in broken English) as her daughter was sitting beside her. It's difficult to say no without upsetting the daughter and even more difficult when trying to give a reason why not to marry her conversing in foreign languages.
