Thinking that the open shelter I slept at last night would provide enough protection from the oncoming typhoon was a mistake... A big one. The shelter didn't make a difference when the storm hit around midnight. It first started with gusts of wind that progressively got stronger and so I crawled out of my tent and packed it away because one of the poles snapped (not to worry as I have a spare); thinking that my tarp would provide me and my bicycle shelter was a good thought at first but soon the wind and the rain was relentless to a point where the tarp being draped over my bike would catch the wind making it whip around me.. I resorted to simply wrapping myself in my tarp, which worked well and I battled the elements cocooned, warm and only a little wet where surprisingly I was able to get some sleep, not good sleep mind you but sleep none the less.
Tired and damp I cycled into the city of Osaka; when I say cycled "into the city" I believe I started out the day in the city, it was just immense, a crazy huge urban region that just went on and on and on... With the inevitable and annoying traffic lights and every single junction.
There were a few hostels outside the main center I passed button whatever reason they told me to go to another hostel (loosing business) area closer to all the sights.
I'm glad I put in the extra effort as the place I found for $20 a night was friendly, the manager Kaza having cycle toured herself.
Washing and drying all my clothes was a huge priority and soon after doing that I caught up on the much needed sleep.
