Mentioned yesterday in my previous post I was stuck around the area of Osaka as I have to wait until Tuesday before I have my appointment with the consulate.
My decision to cycle the surrounding hills was good for the fact it was easy to camp but I have only once before hit a hill so steep that I had to dismount and push, it was a good two kilometers of bulk sweat producing effort up this steep grade where i was graciously offered help from a kind man pushing my bicycle from behind.
Reaching the village at the top of the pass I bought some vegetables from some of the locals and ate a curry breakfast at the local cafe, after devouring the meal I was handed a guest book for those who had cycled the insane road, of course I filled it out but what surprised me was that there was an Australian couple touring towards Tokyo who passed by and ate only an hour before I had arrived. It was a shame I missed them as I could have given them plenty of advice on where to stay and which route.
The mountain road I wanted to cycle turned out to be a toll road and so I descended into another valley below.

I'm getting better with my shopping here in Japan as I can now recognize things that are edible, whether it may be a treat, vegetable or something I know would be questionably edible. So I managed to get a good supply for the next 3-4 days.

Cycling in the foothills of the mountain range was challenging but the traffic was certainly lighter than at the valley floor and I have two days to get to Osaka, there is a slight issue with a typhoon making its way over Japan tomorrow, so I have my fingers crossed that the conditions won't be as bad as the weather forecast predicts.
I've prepared my tarp over my tent tonight for if it does downpour. Only time can tell.

This man helped me push my bicycle up the near-vertical mountain.

The downhill run was fun though.
