Two nights at a hotel room near the port of Sape waiting on news for when the next ferry is departing for Flores.
According the the notice board next to the ticket office all ferries are suspended until the 5th of February.
This certainly puts a kink in my travel plans and according to the lonely planet guide there is nothing to do in the area.
To keep myself occupied I again modified my macro photography setup using scrap parts and components I had collected over the past few months. For those of you that don't know, I travel with a soldering iron, a tool to repair electronic circuits. It comes in handy once in a while whether it be for replacing the jack for a pair of headphones or removing a component from a discarded circuit board on the side of the road. Tinkering was something I enjoyed so much when I was growing up, creating add-ons to existing devices and although the parts I travel with are limited to just a few components I have the knowhow to make something from nothing.
What I have put together this time is a focusing ring light in front of the lens that illuminates the subject making it easier to focus and is triggered by a momentary switch on the outer edge of the lens - this greatly helps out in low and no light environments.
Other than creating this I didn't do much over these past few days.
At least I wasn’t the only one waiting
This is what I finished building… time to have some fun with it.
