Last night chris and I simply had a chilled Saturday afternoon/evening of drinking and watching clips on YouTube also trying traditional Belgium fast food of fries with curry mayo and a bread thing filled with a variety of vegetables and meat that was pretty damn good.
He also showed me around some parts of town viewing somewhat of a foggy (because of bad weather) panoramic of the city from the 15th century fort that looked over it.
So this morning I woke without a hangover and thought I had the energy to cycle a considerable distance from Namur heading in a southeasterly direction towards Luxembourg.
Namur's elevation is 100m above sea level and after the dead flatness of Holland I was surprised that the hills came into play today. I'm not saying this is a bad thing whatsoever I actually prefer hills because it makes my day much more interesting and also challenging - meaning the day is more enjoyable. The hills in Belgium climbed to over 500meters on the route that I took and this finally meant that the clip on shoes that I bought for this trip actually became useful - when climbing a hill I can now pull up on the peddle as I push down meaning I can tackle the climb up hills with ease, well, less strenuously.
Anyway the weather like I mention a lot on this blog was great, a slight chill in the air but mostly sunny and no wind, a great day for sure.
At a rest stop i had a bit of a break To get some food in me where a Belguim guy shows up in an excuse of a ute, a Peugeot that was obviously (because it's French) broken.
The guy didn't speak a word of English and my French is worse than poor, opening the hood I could see instantly what had happened - the air filter had disconnected and so the engine over heated and was probably fucked, I'm also sure that trying to turn over the engine repetitively didn't help. Surely he must have seen the temperature gauge on the dash go into the red but Judging by this guy and his methods of trying to fault find I doubt that he saw.
I finished my lunch to see him screaming and running from the vehicle with smoke and fire bellowing from the engine bay.
I extinguished the fire with my water bottle and backed away because it ran on LPG. Obviously the guy wasn't in a good mood but at least he could have done was thank me for helping. Whatever it's good karma for me - but if I could ask the Karma gods for good weather for the next month... Please.
I was going to camp in a forest somewhere but instead i found a tiny roadside church/memorial shrine that seemed more convenient than setting up my tent so I went to sleep inside. Hopefully no one minds.
