One thing I was looking forward to most on this trip through Europe was to visit this German girl named Barbara, I mentioned before that I met her in the Galopagos islands last year where we had an amazing time together.
With some rough ideas that we both wanted to do for the couple of days she took off work we put together a rough plan to visit a few places in the area around Aachen going on a bit of a road trip as we had her parents car.
Because her parents had gone away we had to look after the dog too, Funny (unusual name for a dog) was a ball of endless energy surrounded with constant malting fur, cool nonetheless and entertainment for our road trip.
Our road trip took Barbara and I to 3 countries and quite a few places, for the most part we were still based in Aachen, Germany and only spending one night in Rennesse, Holland where we had free use of her parents beach house.
This 4 day break gave me the chance to let my legs rest and become more fit for the 7000km+ I have to cycle to Israel, the good thing too is that the weather during my stay took a turn for the worst and was generally shitty; shittier for cycling but good for snuggling indoors.
Certainly the highlight of our time together was going to Brugge, Belgium; for those of you that have not seen the movie "In Brugge" I recommend watching it, it's the reason why we went there, it is a beautiful city and one of the few days that we got some decent weather. I could go on about Brugge but its just easier if you check out the photos below.
Having the need to fill my constant quick metabolizing hunger I cooked up plenty of lovely food for Barbara and myself often having the leftovers for the next day because I suck at measuring portions of food, Thai curry, spicy asian soups, moroccan hotpot with couscous just to mention some of the things we ate.
Barbara being as affectionate, gorgeous and kind as she is made me feel so special during our time together, but all good things come to an end as I had to continue on my bike trip; I was sad, I will miss this girl, I will never forget our time together both here and back in Galapagos.
The day I had to leave was also some of the worst weather for cycling so Barbara took me and my bike to Leige, Belguim where I was going to cycle from there to Namur to see an old buddy I met in La Paz, Bolivia earlier in the year. The weather didn't let up so I paid the money for a train to take me there, this was the first time I took transportation with my bicycle since arriving in Norway, and yes I do feel like its cheating a little but honestly I am almost certain that I will have to do it again when I cycle into the much colder altitudes of the Alps in Switzerland and Austria.
Barbara, thanks for everything. :)
These Pictures below are not in any particular order… i would organise it better but my computer is a piece of shit and has difficulty moving the pics about.
This was at Barbara’s parents beach house.
It really is a beautiful city, Go check Brugge out – or at least watch the film ‘In Brugge’
Around Brugge at night.
A maze barbara, funny and I went to, we all had fun there.
Jumping between Belguim, Germany and Holland.
Above: Old town square 360 degrees Below: 360 Panorama view of Brugge, from bell tower – not an easy picture to take considering all the wire fencing covering each view point.
