Cara and Don's cabin is such an amazing place, they have a wonderful piece of real estate right on the rivers edge, surrounded by nature with plenty of things to do. Cara and Don were both accommodating and generous – I was gobsmacked by everything I did with these guys, the fishing with Don was fantastic, we caught 8 lovely Walleye fish using Grants cheating machine that plotted out exactly what was beneath the boat including the schools of fish – it really was a fun filled morning.
Don taught me a bunch of things today including how to tie some knots, fillet a fish, filled me in with some of the terrain surrounding Winnipeg and more, a very bright guy who incidentally built the boat house using the surrounding trees and a chainsaw!?
When learning to fillet the fish all the leftovers were thrown out onto a rock by the river where a Bald Headed Eagle that lived in a nest across the river would come and swoop the fish carcasses off the rock. This place really surprises me and honestly I would have loved to stick around for longer as I felt incredibly spoiled by the two of them.
Don even gave me a small fishing road with tackle and Cara gave me a bunch of food to take with me on my trip. Unbelievable!
Their generosity for the 20 hours or so I spent with them does not go unappreciated as ill say that this experience alone has made this bicycle trip across the country worthwhile! When I tell people what are my most memorable/best places ive been to I will have to say Don and Cara's Cabin on the Winnipeg River just North of Kenora in Ontario.
Thankyou for inviting me guys, I am so glad I decided to come, it is an experience ill never forget.

On top of all their generosity Don even took me back to the truck where my bike was waiting, I honestly held off leaving Cara, Don and their cabin till 4pm when I should have left at midday where I only got a couple of hours of cycling on the Trans Canadian Highway East – where I was pretty tipsy on the road from the Ceasers and White Russians I consumed before leaving the Cabin
I found a rest stop that I camped at despite the fact your not suppose to, made my dindins and crashed out and I crashed out hard.
