08/09/2011 Day 15 Cycling Across Canada

Distance Traveled: Stayed in Winnipeg
Money Spent: $30 for alcohol and in my drunken state I may have bought something else but I dont remember
Total Distance Traveled:  1050.5 km

When arriving in Winnipeg I was ill-rested but doing ok up until I found out that my bicycle got lost somewhere and was no longer on the bus. I was asking myself the same question – HOW? As it turns out there was an issue with the trailer that my bike was in and soon detached from the bus. Obviously I was fuming, I was bounced around several offices to find out where my bike was, the guy I had to deal with was an asshole and after some shouting on my behalf they finally found out where it was and how soon it could get to Winnipeg which it was arriving in the early afternoon – which isn’t bad but just very inconvenient for me to go back to the greyhound station at the airport later in the day.
After a little wander around the city – which was surprisingly nice – I  went to go meet with an old friend at a restaurant where she worked. I met Halee back in Laos in a tuk-tuk around Vang Vieng, she invited me to come visit and because I was passing through I thought why the hell not especially because she is a fun, out going, beautiful girl. I caught up with her for a little while before her shift started but I needed something to do whilst she was working. I was recommended to go see the Forks which is a park on the riverside, so I headed down there.
Whilst wandering around some random chick approaches me and tells me my name and says I have to go with her, I thought this was someone I had met before but after some clearing up she was a friend of Halee's on the lookout for a hippy with dreads and a purse (its a Colombian man bag!). Anyways Etiene took me around town to do the errands she had to and also taking me back to the airport bus station to pick up my bike – so that was incredibly convenient.
Etiene was turning 30 tomorrow and was having a party in the evening that I was invited to. At her place I re assembled my bike and took it to the liquor store down the road to get some alcohol and buy Etiene a bottle of wine (Australian of course); I had a bit of a frightening moment when cycling where my brakes I forgot to attach not surprisingly failed narrowly missing a car.
The party was fantastic, good fun people, great conversations and I was asked to give advice on where to travel in some places of the world.
I was in quite a state by the end of the night, but I was glad to be taken back to Halee's place out of town because I was in dire need to catch up on some sleep from the lack of it on the bus journey last night.
