Money Spent: $180 for the bus and $20 for food
Total Distance Traveled: 1050.5 km +
Ron was kind enough to cook a delicious breakfast whilst I was packing the remainder of my belongings, ontop of that he even took me to the bus station for me to board the 25 hour bus to Winnipeg, what a great guy!
What is really irritating is that I could have cycled 160km to Medicine Hat arriving before 4pm and that would have shaved of 10 hours on the bus journey also saving me a few dollars but seeing as I had all of Ron's help it just seemed simpler to get the bus from Lethbridge.
The bus journey was long, tedious, cramped, full of people and needless to say uncomfortable, and looking out of the window and seeing exactly the same view over and over that repeated the view of: hay bale, cow, fence and grass over unbelievable flat ground under the baking sun I was certainly happy I wasnt cycling this section of Canada as it would have taken me a week to see even the slightest change of scenery.
I was sitting next to a young Asian guy named Eddy who certainly talked a lot and took some getting used to but he and Mike who sat infront of me turned out to be pretty cool guys.
Along the way at some point during the milk run we stopped at some place I dont recall where exactly but it was completely by random chance to see a familiar face boarding the bus. Xavier who not only did I tree plant with 2 years ago I also saw him in the North of Nicaragua a little under a year ago. Over the past two weeks I have ran into 5 different people I have met within the last 3 years – how fucked up is that.
Anyway, at this stop I went inside to see whether I could have a plastic knife to use to spread my PB and J on some bread that I had waiting for me on the bus. I couldnt believe it, I was refused by a fat ugly miserable old hag – I honestly couldnt fathom why, its not like I would or could use it to decapitate someone on the bus, What the fuck? Oh, for those who don’t know, there was an incident a couple of years ago where a mental case removed the head of a passenger on a greyhound bus near Winnipeg. A lot of jokes derived from this incident for example; asking someone on the bus “where you be-headed?”
it was very uncomfortable to sleep on the bus and I really wished I had the sleeping pills I used back in India. I had run outta those a long time ago. Shame

Entering Calgary – pictures never come out well when taken from a bus.

As you can see the scenery is exactly the same
