Distance Traveled: Pincher Creek to Lethbridge 100ish km
Money Spent: $60 for a Camera at a Second Hand Store, $18 for a 16GB memory card and $2.5 for Maccy D's.
Time cycling: 4hours 15 minutes
Moving Average: 23.1km/h
Total Distance Traveled: 1050.5 km
People I spoke to about the terrain towards Lethbridge all told me it was hilly and going to be a difficult cycle, this was all extremely exaggerated, because it wasnt in the slightest, towns could be seen from miles away and the road couldnt have been flatter.
Before leaving Pincher Creek I did some internet stuff at the library and had a look around some secondhand stores for a new camera; I managed to find the same camera I had years ago that can be hacked with a new firmware called CHDK essentially turning the point and shoot into a pocketable super camera capable to features only found on professional DSLR's of course with lesser quality images, and at $60 it was a bargain. I also tried selling the Breathalyzer I found the other day, unfortunately the guy didnt want it.
Cycling out of town towards Lethbridge was unbelievable boring, having no hills to look forward to I got to the point where I was cycling along and configuring my new camera, trying out and practicing the French lessons I had just downloaded on the 6 foot shoulder – Im very happy ill be getting a bus across the prairies as I think I would have gone insane... well more insane than I am already.
The sun was hot today also, with my sweat beading on my brow mixing with the sunscreen I had applied and dripping into my eyes, almost blinding me.
Counting down the kilometers till reaching Lethbridge and only a few kilometers away from where I was staying at my hosts place through 'Warm showers' I got a flat on the rear tire, this was very inconvenient because I had to run a few errands around town before the shops closed. As I was repairing the tire outside a liquor store a woman asked me if I needed help and offered to tke me where I needed to go; this couldnt have come at a better time because it was getting close to 5pm and I needed to pick up a box at a bike store and go by the Greyhound office to buy my ticket, if this woman didnt help me out there was absolutely no way I could have done all these things before the shops closed. Ontop of all that she also drove me to Ron and Lizbeth's (sorry if I got that wrong) place where I was staying for the night – she believed in Karma and I couldnt have been more greatful.
Bicycling enthusiasts themselves Ron and Lizbeth were incredibly hospitable and lovely lovely people, they were hosting a dinner party with some friends in the evening and we all had a great time together even bringing out the breathalyzer to see how much alcohol was in our systems... Great night, great food and great people. Oh and it turns out that police commissioned breathalyzer is worth $400... not a bad find, eh?
I also had to dismantle my bike to squeeze it into the box and with Ron's help we didnt really have much of an issue.
The Flat boring, unexciting roads of the Praries, Alberta.
First stop in 50 clicks, the sun was getting far too hot at this time in the arvo – but I pushed on.
Where i got a flat tire, me looking all disapointed - shortly later that woman helped me out, Thankyou SOOO Much!
Ron, Lizbeth and friends trying out the breathalyzer, and Ron helping pull my bike apart. You guys were fantastic.
