Miyajima, a holy place for most of Japanese history and a gorgeous place to roam about as strict measures are in place to preserve the classic Japanese look.
I made it here from Hiroshima in a little over an hour, not counting the 25minutes I was stuck in between the railroad tracks and the coast in a small neighborhood with what seemed now at out. Eventually I managed to get out using a lift, then bridge and another lift.
Miyajima is reached by sea from the mainland and frequent ferries get you over there.
Arriving with my bike I checked out the number one most photographed place in all of Japan: the floating tori hate that sits out in the sea whilst masses of tourists come to photograph it, including me.
Miyojima seemed like a place of serenity, what should be a quite place that is authentically peaceful with deer wandering freely in this quaint and beautiful small town but spoilt by the multitude of crappy souvenir shops and the loudspeaker equipped tour guides with rampaging people following behind. The deer also became annoying as they tried to get into my bags and find my food.
As the sun set I followed the almost unused coastal road to find a camping spot for the night and away from the pestering deer enthralled that I found a spot where the river met the sea right on the beach.
The most photographed location of all Japan.
