After spending two days out of the rain in Sengiggi I was very keen to depart and make my way towards Sumbawa stopping at Tetebatu for the evening.Using my GPS to route the way there I was directed to take some very bumpy roads... If you could call them roads, essentially some parts were steep muddy pothole riddled walking trails that the recent rain washed away where the locals would give me dumbfounded looks questioning what the hell I was doing there; but I stuck with it and finally managed to get onto a sealed road towards Tetebatu. Despite this though I did see some pretty spectacular tobacco and rice fields on route with the towering volcano of Rinjani in the background.
Today being sunny and constantly being thumbed-upped by the locals I was in a great mood and treated myself to a Indonesian dessert called "Estelar" which is a sweetened condensed milk concoction with multiple fruits and jelly, it being delicious it was also sickly sweet.
Arriving in Tetebalu having tackled the steep climb to get there I was greeted by a local who took me to his uncles place (Seb) to spend the evening camping under the shelter behind his home. I was graciously treated to delicious food and drink, but this place was also a chill-out area for many older travelers who I met and conversed with.
I simply loved how things panned out today, friendly locals, amazing food and a sheltered safe place to camp for the night.
Currently, as I write this I am stuffed full of food and I'm looking forward to a decent slumber this evening.
Valle and Matias when leaving Sengiggi
I had this lovely woman repair the gaping hole in the bottom of my shorts.
Wheelies… unfortunately I cannot do this with my bike
On my way up to Tetebatu… note: middle picture is the path my GPS took me on.
Made it.. and with a great sunset
My Macro photography is getting better!
