It has been a while since I had meet a group of random travelers, all from different places to get together for food and a few beers. I have sincerely missed it because meeting a group good people especially when traveling alone makes the trip worthwhile, giving you the opportunity to share stories and advice.
This evening in Sengigi was fun, I joined a group of backpackers where we went for food and drink and chatted away until close to midnight: essentially I was one to share some of my crazy stories of touring the world but nevertheless I love entertaining and we all had a good time.
Getting to Sengigi from Bali required me boarding the same boat I took from Lombok to Bali a week ago, here I also met a bunch of backpackers. Because of high winds over the past few days none of the fast boats were running between the islands and all the tourists had no choice other than to board the slow ferry.
Getting burnt to a crisp on the unshaded top floor of the passenger ship I again met interesting people with whom I got chatting to for the length I the journey.
From the port town of Lembar to Sengigi which is a popular surf spot and tourist destination involved me cycling through some very poor towns, I encountered many homeless women begging who I donated money to but despite this the scenery was serene, more of the lush fluorescent green rice paddies that you find all over SE Asia, the overgrown high hills east of the wonderful sweeping coastline albeit littered with plastics.
All in all a good and sweet day of cycling.
I almost forgot to mention, when disembarking from the boat in Lombok I met an Austrian couple who greeted me with all smiles, they called me over as if they knew me; this is confusing as I often meet people and forget where I met them, where they are from, their names and perhaps even not recognizing their faces. Anyway, Susie and her boyfriend (S....) were so happy to see me cycling the way that i do that they bought me an ice-cream; they were a lovely couple however due to my recent issue with Austrian people, but more specifically 'woman' I was hesitant about them... Of course this is an exaggeration and in no way could these two make me feel like Steffi did when I was in Austria... Whatever I am rambling because I am sunburnt and exhausted.
Goodnight!
Leaving Bali for good.. but what a view
Susie, Partner and some local after eating a delicious icecream. thanks guys
Unfortunately the beaches are littered with litter…
However the locals are nice and friendly.
I gave this woman some money… looked like she needed it more than I do.
