It's been 4 days now since I left Oslo and I have yet to have a shower, well I'm not going to count cycling in the rain today despite getting drenched.
Regardless of the rain and the headwind I still enjoyed the ride, I mean waking up beside rock carvings 3000 years old is certainly a bonus but having wet clothes, being blown about the road, splashed by vehicles and missing out on the views that one would enjoy only in the sunshine, I was content with todays cycle.
The German couple I had dinner with last night, Kai and Stephanie who were driving about Sweden in an old VW van I happened to encounter on two occasions today, once on the free ferry used to cross an inlet and again whilst cycling (obviously) about 20 clicks down the road. I know their vehicle is old and slow but I didn't think that slow. I took some pictures of them shown below and after pushed on into the rain that got progressively worse.
In a small town called Varekil where I picked up some groceries I somehow managed to get lost in the town cycle paths, it's a tiny town and I was lost for a good 1/2 hour before returning back to the road where I entered the town. Silly mistake.
Rain, rain, rain.
Finally after crossing 2 impressive bridges where I was almost blown of my bike several times I made it to Stenungsund, I found a McDonalds in this town to use the free wifi to send some messages while waiting for the rain to calm.
I wanted to make it into Gothenberg 50km from here today but mother nature didn't let me, instead I camped beside a parking lot in some bushes.
.... Man, do I need a shower. Tomorrow ill be in Gothenburg if all goes to plan...
Also, I just made up a recipe for THE best hot chocolate:
Melt a Mars bar in a little bit of butter, add milk and while it is on a low heat whisk in a tablespoon of cream cheese.
To my readers, if you try this let me know what you think.
The rock paintings i camped beside – amazing no?
Stephanie and Kai, once again.
At this point i was absolutely drenched.
