Exactly one year before the apparent end of the world I thought it was about time to use my open-water dive certificate that I studied for when I was in Columbia earlier in the year. And I really could not have picked a better place to do this as I'm in the Galapagos islands! It was a very early morning start where I had to be up and running about by 5.30am, and not having slept all that well because of the excitement of again being able to breath underwater with the possibility of seeing sharks and other underwater creatures.
I met the the guide and the others joining me on the dive today outside the dive center where I had organised the tour yesterday, we were carted onto a small diving boat and set off the Floreana where we went on 2 dives. Joining me were a Canadian couple (Issac and Paula) and a Swiss girl (Jasmin).
Our Guide (Hugo) took us diving to two locations around Floreana, the first dive I was struck with a little unease because it had been a while since I last dove. But as soon as I got under the water all was well and what I learnt in columbia came flooding back to me (no pun intended).
The two dives we got to see only one hammerhead shark that was hard to make out because of the clarity of the water, but nevertheless great to see, along with a bunch of white tip reef sharks, a bunch of sea lions that I got to play with and a bunch of other marine creatures.
It was money well spent although a little short as we were done by midday (where lunch was included but shitty) but honestly it was a once in a lifetime experience.
Below should be a selection of pics I gathered from the Canadians underwater camera along with Hugo's camera too. Enjoy!
