01/12/2011 day 2 of 2 of Jungle Trek

A lot was squeezed into today where we went tubing down one of the Amazon river tributaries, in no way was it it fastest tubing session I have done but it was nice to relax and and in my case even to fall asleep only to be woken by my head hitting a parked boat on the river shore.
Next up and as you can see by the pics below was an animal rescue facility run by mostly German volunteers, our guide was new to the job and wasn't the most informative but it was good to see some animals as we didn't see any on the hike through the jungle yesterday.
After an exceptionally long boat ride we ended up in a small village inhabited by the native people called the Quichua, in no way was this a remote indigenous tribe that had never seen white skin before and it was a common place for tourists to rest up for the day before heading back to MisahuallĂ.
In this small village we made chocolate from scratch and checked out the locals panning for gold. Gold panning for them was a tedious job as they used makeshift equipment but they find more or less $50 worth of gold a day obviously depending on the price of gold. Which really isnt bad.
We hung out around our accommodation drinking beers and later eating dinner but returned to the drinking whilst swinging in hammocks.
