I woke up early again this morning to get back on the road. As I was packing up my things I was surprised by a sudden downpour drenching myself and all my stuff. I rushed to get everything on the bike but gave up in the end and waited under my tarp for the rain to pass, thankfully it was only 15 minutes.
I passed many lakes and the terrain wasnt all the difficult but when I hit the small town of Dyment I could see the dark clouds form overhead, coming in from the West. At this point I thought maybe I could outrun it with the winds pushing me East, surly it did but it was only a matter of time before it struck, and it struck hard, this is where the decent rain gear I bought recentlty came in handy.
There were not any towns between Dyment and Upsala but I cycled on with the wind coming in pushing me around in all directions, almost off the road on several occasions. Fatigue was an issue too, closing my eyes at times and drifting onto the rumble strip – never good.
Just before hitting Upsala – which incidentally is the name of a Swedish town, North or Stockholm where some good friend of mine live - I was stopped by construction workers doing some road works; I couldnt even get the slightest smile out of the woman with the stop/go sign, what a miserable, untalented, boring bitch. The 3 minutes or so I stood there with my bike trying to make conversation was a brutally painful experience.
Anyway, I made it to Upsala and pulled into a truckstop and ordered the special of the day, it was a pretty pathetic excuse for a burger but tasted great so I inhaled it because I was staved. I sat around speaking to the workers of the place and they offered me to sleep in the camper outside – fantastic! The weather in the evening was very cold and windy – not so great for camping.IMG_0065-1024
