Some shitty shoulders covered in grit and rumble strips for most of the cycling today but other than that not much to really mention until I hit Fernie which was my end destination.
I went to go check out the hostel in town hoping it was busy, seeing as it was a Saturday. Unfortunately it wasn’t so I tried to get in contact with people on the 'warm showers' list and also people on 'couch-surfing' using the internet at a Mexican restaurant/sports shop. Whilst waiting for a reply I went for a wander around downtown Fernie to see what was about – talk about a ghost town; there was nothing open and no people about, but then again it was 6.30 in the afternoon and the only thing I found was another sports shop celebrating their 1 year anniversary since opening. They were selling things for dirt cheap where I bought a new pair of sunnies and considered buying a comfortable (but still really expensive) seat for my bike, I passed on on the purchase thinking my ass could handle more punishment – I couldn’t find another way to write that last sentence without sounding gay. Haha
The girl working at the store was a good laugh and she pointed out there was a donation BBQ for the celebration, I put in a few dollars and I got a decent feed out of it.
With still no reply from anyone on couch-surfers I considered cycling a little bit further out of town when I was told about a demolition derby happening tomorrow – I have never been to an event like this so I'm thinking I'll stick around tomorrow and check it out. Why not enjoy myself eh?
I camped down a dirt road just past a residential area in the corner of town, skipping out on having to pay for any accommodation.
There is one issue, as I right this I hear animal noises around me... possibly bears?lets hope I wake up tomorrow morning.
