Only 30km were cycled today and for good reason because as we entered the small town of Opononi an American man named Michael approached us on a bicycle and told us we had a place to camp on some lawn space down the road across the way from the beach. So after some garlic fries and ice cream we went to go check it out, the houses at the top of the driveway were holiday home rentables with no one about and with the only indication that it was Michael's place was his bicycle in the small shack out back.
For some time of us questioning whether to stay or not we went to the beach and relaxed hoping for Michael to show after we had returned, thankfully he did and we ended up spending the night on some lush and mowed grass.
Having showered under the outside shower, charged our belongings pitched the tent, ate our food and relaxed the daughter of the owners of the house found us camping on the front lawn of their holiday home. As it turns out, Michael looked after the places and was sure that the owners wouldn't show up.
Anyway, after a bit of chitchat all was well and Beth and her friends didn't mind us there.
This small town was quaint, beautiful and nearly untouched, everyone seemed to know each other and it almost seemed like the perfect place to live.
