What a long long day, I covered a considerable distance though but all because typhoon Vongyong is about to hit Japan. I am hoping I'll reach Hiroshima before it does; I don't want another repeat of sleeping in typhoon weather.
Following the north coast of Shikoku I was happy to receive near perfect tailwind meaning I was able to cover 100km before midday, there really wasn't much of interest along the way before reaching Imabari where I was started island hopping back to western Honshu. This involved several bridges that linked some of the islands and as it is a common cycle route there were dedicated bike/pedestrian paths that wound around the island hills to reach the bridge that then could be cycled across. Other than the annoying people getting in the way of the bike lanes the ride was great, also not having to worry about vehicle traffic was a bonus.
The plethora of other cyclists gave their nod of recognition when they saw me, which is something that is hard to come by here in this country; more often than not the Japanese are so completely absorbed with whatever it is they are doing, even something as simple as walking to notice anything that is happening around them.
For example, I saw a woman walking her dog and for the longest time the dog was trying to untangle it's leash from between its front and hind legs, the woman was oblivious to the dog trying to free itself, so I turned around and helped the poor thing where the woman just laughed, confused with what it was I was helping her dog out with.

So, from here to Hiroshima I have roughly 120km to cycle, if I am able to make it there before the typhoon hits the region I will be relieved, chances are though I'll be stuck in the middle of it. I suppose we will see.
