It was a freezing cold morning but at least the sun was out, I knew that I would be no longer following the Rhein and be headed towards the Swiss Alps this mean that I would be hitting some hills today. Not once on this trip did I have to dismount from my bike and tackle a hill on foot.. Until today, mind you it wasn't a major road, more of a steep foot path that completely drained me of energy and sweat. I recouped from the loss of energy but my sweat that soaked my clothes chilled me when climbing and defending from the 700 meter pass I tackled this morning.
Today I met Valentine and Johannes a Swiss couple who were 3 days from completing an over 9000km cycle adventure from Norway to Greece and back to Switzerland which is where they were from. Apart from 2 German guys I met in Sweden this has been the only been the second time I met some touring cyclists that are covering some considerable distance. It would have been nice to have a coffee with them to get a heads up on what I'll be experiencing south of this point but we all needed to cover some distance today.
After the 700 meter pass everything flattened out and much of way to Bern was good with me tolerating with the slight brisk headwind from the South.
I met some good characters today, happy people and more importantly, interested people who approached me and asked questions rather than the dumbfounded looks of others.
Arriving in Bern, which is very cycle friendly, I made my way to Sue's place where I relaxed and drank some beer. sue had to go to study so I had the place to myself to shower and cook dinner for the two of us.
It was great catching up after not seeing eachother for the past year and a half but I was exhausted from not sleeping to well last night because of freight trains passing my camping spot every 5 minutes evoking unusual dreams that involved disasters.
Beautiful Swiss landscapes
Finally meeting some other touring cyclists
3,000km in! and the small cafe that i celebrated at by drinking some alcoholic coffee
Getting close to Bern and also the Alps
