When I went to bed last night I didnt throw my tarpaulin over my tent and of course it rained in the early hours of the morning, it took a little while to get myself out of my sleeping bag, then out of my tent to prevent all my stuff from getting wet. When I covered my tent it stopped raining – just my luck.
I got chatting to a biker named Scotty in the morning and it was funny because he was a lot like me in a lot of ways with working treeplanting and travelling the world in his time off work – it was a good little chat and we had a few laughs before we parted ways
The road downhill from where I camped was great, although it was freezing cold and necessary for me to wear gloves but I enjoyed the downhill descent all the way into Castlegar.
From Castlegar I had two options, I could do the highest pass in BC and I suppose in Canada at 1700m or take the alternative route North to Nelson where the terrain was relatively easy. I went with the route up to Nelson because I had heard a lot of great things about the town – don’t get me wrong, I would have loved to attempt the steep climb up the pass but apparently the lakeside route was much more scenic.
On my way to Nelson I stopped for lunch at a petrol station and whilst eating by my bike I drew some attention with some of the locals to a point where they were so impressed by my trip one of them bought me a beer.
In the mid afternoon when I arrived in Nelson I went by the tourist office to use the internet and get some information about what to see about town. I also checked the 'warm-showers' list for a place to sleep for the night; 2 people were listed but one of which was away on a touring trip so I emailed the other in hopes I would get a reply before leaving town – I wasnt going to spend $30 for a night at a hostel, thats far too much to spend for a night.
After seeing some of the sights around town and getting some great pictures I was just about to leave but got an email from the girl who was willing to put me up for the night. She worked at the fruit stand at the end of town so I went to see her. As it turns out we had seen eachother before but not met at Kemess mine where I was planting trees only 2 weeks ago – the chances of this were incredibly slim but doesn’t surprise me cause this type of thing (as I have mentioned before) always happens to me with my lifestyle.
Duffy (my host) said I was more than welcome to stay at her place but would have to pitch up my tent in the lack of a backyard – I was fine with this and I headed over there.
The dozen people that lived in the “Yellow house” were great, all musically talented and good fun to be about, a bunch of them were performing at the local bar later in the evening for open mic night and seeing as it was their first time on stage as a band they wanted an audience, so I came along.
It was a great night out with SO many gorgeous girls about and from what I experienced today around Nelson I see what people are talking about – this place is fantastic, full of great good looking people with amazing views and so much more.
Today I also got a palm reading from one of the inhabitants of the Yellow House, Natasha from Germany – traveled the world and one very intelligent woman, she and her palm reading skills really surprised me, I must admit I was highly skeptical but she was unbelievably accurate, telling me things about my past and some upcoming ideas I have planned.
Despite the fact I was drinking I didn’t have a late night (as I would normally when drinking about the town) but I need to cover a lot of distance tomorrow to make up for a lack of it today.
